The Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer has awarded a total of 65 grants to date.  The following organizations have been awarded grants from the proceeds of our

Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer.

 

Athens Regional Medical Center – Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support www.armc.org

· Therapeutic Yoga for Breast Cancer Survivors:  A weekly yoga group for breast cancer survivors.  The class provides social support, education in
relaxation and stress management, and increases self-awareness and self-esteem related to body image issues.

· Continuum of Care Services:  Woven Dialogue Workshop, Guided Imagery and Painting Workshop, Adaptive Yoga for Breast Cancer Patients, Yoga
Instructor Adaptive Yoga Training, Post Treatment Survivors Quality of Life Workshop and Genetic Counseling.

· Transportation Programs for Breast Cancer Patients; offers 24 hours/7 days a week telephone support, information and referral services.

· Support in The Work Place:  Advocacy in the work place to help our clients maintain their jobs or become re-employable.

 

Center for Pan Asian Community Service, Inc. www.cpacs.org

· Asian Breast Care:  Provides breast care education, early detection outreach projects and screening services for Asian American women.

· Wellness on Wheels:  Provides mammograms and follow-up diagnostics.

· Breast Health Promotion Program:  Outreach program to under-served women throughout metropolitan Atlanta, providing health care information, mammograms and recommended follow-up.

 

Georgia Cancer Foundation www.gacancerfoundation.org

· Bosom Buddies of Georgia:  Provides low-cost mammograms to help the medically underserved low income women.  Program provides screening, and diagnostic mammograms as well as breast ultrasounds to women who are unemployed, uninsured, or have a very high deductible.

· Women’s Health Navigators Program:  Winning the Fight Against Breast Cancer:  Program provides older African-American women with
educational materials that provide them with breast health facts and information about mammography screening.

· “From the Flying Deck, Get a Breast Check”:  Worksite breast health program for the multicultural, multiethnic employees at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

· Breast Education Program:  Educate women on how to do self-breast exam; provide breast exams and offer low-cost options for mammograms.

· Journey to Recovery:  A program for breast cancer patients with support for patients in radiation therapy or chemotherapy treatment, providing wigs and/or turbans, camisoles, and journals, to help with the recovery process and healing.

 

Marcus Jewish Community Center www.atlantajcc.com

· Breast Health Program:  This program focus’ on activities throughout the year for women and girls of all ages, as well as spouses and caregivers of those facing breast cancer.  Provides education and awareness on prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer focusing on immigrants from the former Soviet Union and Israel.

· Breast Cancer Genetics Outreach and Education:  Project promotes understanding of basic genetic principles, breast cancer risk factors, cancer risk assessment, screening guidelines and the availability, risks and benefits of genetic testing for susceptibility genets.

 

Piedmont Hospital, Cancer Wellness at Piedmont www.piedmont.org

· Nutrition Works!:  Comprehensive nutrition/wellness program designed to support women in making healthy choices in their fight against cancer. Free learning groups on nutrition, cooking demonstrations, nutritional assessments and relaxation seminars.

 

Piedmont Hospital, Doris Shaheen Breast Health Center www.piedmonthopsital.org

· PINK:  Cancer Well-Fit program for women undergoing treatment for breast cancer introducing patients to the importance of regular exercise to
promote full recovery.

 

Saint Joseph’s Hospital of Atlanta www.stjosephsatlanta.org

· Diagnostic Breast Care Program:  This program meets a specific community need which is to provide diagnostic workup for women who have had a
suspicious finding on screening mammography through the SJHA Breast Health Center or Mobile Coach and who are unable to pay for services.

 

Saint Joseph’s Mercy Care Services www.stjosephsatlanta.org  

· Breast and Cervical Cancer Program:  Provides community-based, culturally appropriate, comprehensive breast-health outreach, screening, and
education to low-income women in the African-American, Latino, and Vietnamese refugee communities.

 

Sisters…By Choice, Inc. www.sistersbychoice.net

· The Breast Health Start Project:  Project is designed to increase awareness and ensure the delivery of breast health care for women living in homeless shelters.

· Ductal Lavage and Atypia:  Study will evaluate the significance of atypia seen on ductal lavage fluid and correlate it with the pathology of the excised duct system.

· “Comfort Me”:  Provides education, support and reimbursements of cancer supplies to the underserved diagnosed with breast cancer.

 

The Atlanta Lesbian Cancer Initiative www.thehealthinitiative.org

· Client Services and Wellness Program:  Psychosocial, informational and physical support to metro area lesbians living with breast cancer, and offers wellness programming to enhance the survival of ALCI’s breast cancer clients.

· Breast Health Program:  Program seeks to engage metro area lesbians more actively participating in their overall health with the goal of reducing cancer risks and increasing the number of women screened for breast cancer.

· Lesbian Breast Health Program – Carpe Booben:  Educates lesbians about breast cancer risks.

 

The Good Samaritan Health Center www.goodsamatlanta.org

· Women’s Health Days:  Program provides mammogram screenings and follow-up testing for early detection and treatment of breast cancer to uninsured and underserved.

 

The Wellness Community www.thewellnesscommunity-atlanta.org

· Educating the Cancer Patient:  Variety of programs such as Frankly Speaking, Ask the Doctor, and Nutrition workshops, answer questions about treatment, side effects, and long term family issues such as genetic
counseling.

· Return to Wellness:  A free of charge ten-week, twenty session program for women who are one year or less post-treatment for breast cancer.  Each session includes one hour of yoga or strength training, and one hour of education and group support.

· Living Fully with Advanced Breast Cancer:  This project is a support and education program for women who have metastatic breast cancer or a recurrence of breast cancer.

· ENCORE/plus Witness Project:  Culturally appropriate education and outreach program targeted to African-American Women.

 

TurningPoint Women’s Healthcare, Inc. www.myturningpoint.org

· TurningPoint Northeast Georgia Project:  Increases accessibility to programs in the NE Georgia region providing financial support, clinical services in English and Spanish, and education programs for healthcare providers, breast cancer survivors and breast cancer risk reduction.

 

Young Survival Coalition – Atlanta www.youngsurvival.org

· Newly Diagnosed Resource Kit:  Support and educational material designed specifically for newly diagnosed young women under the age of 40.  The kit includes a list of support groups and resources in the metro Atlanta, a buddy form for those seeking peer to peer support, an education video and companion guide.
